The second event of the Maserati BIG5 Challenge shines the spotlight on the top swimmers in the competition.
There were big smiles all around as competitors gathered at Knysna Waterfront to start the second event of the Maserati BIG5 Challenge, the Knysna Lagoon Mile Swim. This open water swim in the Knysna Lagoon is a full Nautical mile (1,85kms) which takes participants out of the harbour, under the bridge, around an island and back again.
Initially scheduled to take place on Sunday event organisers and safety crews made the decision to postpone it to today due to rough conditions. The water temperature of 12 degrees Celsius and the flat and calm conditions made for fierce competition in the water with Bradley Weiss maintaining his lead in the Men’s category in style despite coming in second to Keegan Cooke. In the Women’s category Vicky van der Merwe gained the lead over mountain bike winner Fienie Barnard in the second event of the overall race for Maserati BIG5 Challenge glory.
