I’ve been hearing about this hoopla around Football since I was a child and often wondered what it is about this sport that makes people so passionate, till the time I myself went out to witness the first match and here I am quite obsessed with it myself. Soccer lovers around the globe would share the same obsession and would understand how winning a match could bring tears of joy. Quite a roller coaster ride, every single moment of a match whether it is witnessing your rivals score a goal or your favorite team player shooting one makes your heart thump out of your chest. 

Are you a huge football fan too? If yes, there would be a list of your favorites just like mine. Here’s my list of favorites who’ve ruled the boards in 2019.

  • Lionel Messi

If ever there’s a list of Soccer icons made, Lionel Messi is a name that will definitely find a place in each and every one of it. One of the greatest soccer players, he has charmed all with his classy and sophisticated dribbling style. It’s his unmatched football sessions, unparalleled gaming style and winning streak in FIFA World Cup 2014 and 2018 that have made this FC Barcelona player, king of numerous hearts. Not to forget, he also has a record six Ballon d’Or awards and a record six European Golden Shoe award to his credit. 

  • Cristiano Ronaldo

When it comes to versatility, one player that has this title to him is none other than Cristiano Ronaldo. Playing as a forward from Serie A side Juventus, he has the maximum number of goals scored in the UEFA Champions League (128) and the joint record of most goals scored in the UEFA European Championship (9) of all time to his credit. Not just this, his massive fan following across the world and online has made him one of the most popular soccer players of all time. 

  • Andres Iniesta

Another Barcelonian star, Andres Iniesta literally sends shivers down the spine of his defenders and is unmatched when it comes to smartly calculate speed and pace of his game. Iniesta was named as European Player of the Year at EURO 2012 and is currently the third most loved and popular player in the soccer world. Playing as a central midfielder for the Japanese club Vissel Kobe, he was named as one of the four captains chosen by his FC Barcelona teammates alongside Leonal Missi, Sergio Busquets, and Javier Mascherano. 

  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is known to be highly pleasing and one of the strongest soccer players in history. Regarded as one of the best strikers of his generations, Zlatan currently is the third most decorated active soccer players in the world. Extremely acrobatic, his bicycle kick goal still leaves everyone in awe of his game. He has 32 trophies in his galleria and scored over 540 goals in his career so far. 

  • Neymar Da Silva Santos

At just 27 years old, Neymar has conquered the heart of every football enthusiast around the globe with his extraordinary gaming skills. Playing as a forward for French club Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil National Team, he is a package with astonishing speed, incredible agility, and acceleration. With 61 goals in 101 matches t his credit for Brazil, he is the third-highest goalscorer for his national team trailing right behind Pele and Ronaldo. Also, he ranks amongst the world’s most prominent sportsmen with SportsPro naming him as the most marketable athlete in 2012 and 2013 and ESPN naming him to be the fourth most famous athlete in 2016 and 2017. In 2019, Forbes ranked him as the world’s third-highest paid athlete right after Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

  • Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney is a soccer talent that needs no introduction. A professional English footballer, he has mostly played as a forward in a career together with being used in numerous midfield roles. Referred to as one of the best players of his generation, Rooney has a record of scoring maximum goals for both England National Team and Manchester United. Rooney is set to join Derby County in 2020. As far as his accreditations fare concerned, he has won the PFA Players layer of the Year awards and the FWA Footballer of the Year award for the 2009-2010 season. He has also been awarded the Premier League Player of the Month award five times throughout his career, a world-class record alongside Steven Gerrard and Harry Kane. 

  • Robin Van Persie

A Dutch former footballer, Persie played as a forward and is considered to be one of the best strikers of his generation. A record goal scorer of all time for the Netherlands National Team, he was highly illustrious when playing up front as a pure striker winning the Premier League Golden Boot twice in a row. He is also a set-piece specialist whilst having numerous assists from both corners and freekicks. Currently, Robin Van Persie is laying for Turkish Super Lig Club Fenerbahce and the Netherlands National Team.   

  • Radamel Falcao Garcia

Falcao is a professional Colombian football player who plays for Super Lig Club Galatasaray and the Colombia National Team. He is usually referred to as El Tiger that’s the Spanish translation for The Tiger of “King of the Europa League”. Radamel holds pride in becoming the first-ever Colombian to receive the Portuguese Golden Ball award because of his ability to be an exceptional striker and an ability to bag a goal from nothing. A pure striker, he is also labeled as a Poacher because of his capability of capitalizing on the few chances given and translating them to a goal. Prior to Falcao’s ACL injury, Fabio Capello considered him to be a contemporary of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. 

  • Cesc Fabregas

A perfect combination of both persistence and skill, Cesc Fabregas is a Spanish footballer who features as a central midfielder for Ligue 1 Club Monaco and the Spain National Team. Fabregas has been a prominent figure in Spain’s European Championship victories in 2008, 2012 and the World Cup victory in 2010 where he passed the pass for Andres Iniesta’s winning goal. He also owned his 100th cap for Spain on 12th October 2015. Currently, he is playing for one of the richest football clubs, Chelsea and is also named to be one of the elite players at a young age.
