Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour celebrates 30th edition

Maserati BIG5 Challenge off to a fierce start

The Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival has begun in earnest with the Momentum Knysna Cycle Tour mountain bike races, which means that the Maserati BIG5 Challenge is now underway.

The mountain bike race is the first event of the Maserati BIG5 Challenge, the race that sees athletes participate in five events over the course of 10 days. Taking an early win in the race series was Bradley Weiss in the Men’s category and Fienie Barnard in the Women’s category. Next up for the competitors will be the Featherbed Knysna Dragons Lagoon Mile tomorrow (Sunday 9 July).

The top riders battled it out on the forest track and singletrack trails for line honours in the Cycle Tour with Matthys Beukes taking overall victory, followed closely by Gert Heyns and Matt Beers. In the Women’s category Robyn de Groot arrived on the finish line in sweeping style with Candice Lill and Yolandi de Villiers finishing second and third respectively.
